This publication offers a practical, plain-language guide to the essential concepts that shape today’s world of work. It explains the fundamental principles and rights at work, key terms commonly used in trade agreements and labour governance, as well as the labour dimensions of global supply chains.

Developed under the ILO project Trade, Labour and Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work in Southeast Asia, funded by the Government of Canada, it responds to a rapidly growing need for clear, accessible information at a time when labour rights, global trade and economic uncertainty are deeply intertwined. Designed for government officials, workers’ and employers’ organizations, educators, researchers and businesses, the guide demystifies technical language and equips readers to engage confidently in labour- and trade-related discussions.
